There has been a misconception on what sexy is. We correlate it with skimp clothes, ass out, coca cola shape etc. Or we associate feeling sexy with that special someone. People forget how invigorating "feeling sexy" can be. Feeling sexy for yourself is the most empowering, exhilarating feeling! There’s literally no better feeling, than feeling yourself, loving yourself and being comfortable in the skin your in. I've decided to break down my top 5 things I do to get my sexy on...watch out Victoria Secret Models!
1. Whenever we are wrapping up getting ready one of our last final touches is fragrance. A squirt of perfume can be so invigorating and is scientifically proven to awaken your sensual side. "Scents stimulate nerve endings at the back of your nose, which ignites the limbic system – the area of our brain that’s responsible for our behavior, emotions, and our libido, aka our sex drive." There are particular scents that are more potent than others, for example, the tropical flower Ylang-Ylang energizes both men and women. Similarly, vanilla is another sexy scent that has been used as a natural aphrodisiac for centuries. Be sure to use a perfume and not a mist! Mist mixes with your natural body oils and eventually fades away while perfume is dominate over oils and will last for hours!
2. I know whenever I'm feeling blah I like to schedule in some serious well needed TLC. I put on my favorite play list with some Rihanna, Nicki, Cardi and take some time to make myself feel sexy, with only me in mind. There’s something extremely empowering when you dress with only yourself in mind: it breeds confidence, which in turn exudes sex appeal. So you’ll feel good whether you want to do a red lip or put on some lacey underwear and dance around, dancing releases endorphins and serotonin in your brain (the happy hormones). It’s also believed that people who are more comfortable in the nude have better body image. But lets never forget the power of a good freakum dress!
3. Engaging in a sensory experience (other than the obvious) can be extremely empowering, and can make you feel sexy AF. By taking the time to appreciate your body and your own sense of touch, you’ll begin to feel more in tune and more comfortable with your body. It can also be a great addition to a pampering session or after a bath. I love to moisturize with a good body oil or even coconut oil! Massaging or rubbing on oil will help you de-stress and can even help drain toxins from your body, so not only will you feel more connected to your body, but you’ll feel invigorated.
4. Look hunny if you don't love yourself NOBODY will! The practice of self-love and self-appreciation is so simple yet SO powerful. There are tons of studies that show how it increases positivity and makes you a happier, more confident, peaceful person, and what’s more sexier than confidence? In a recent study by Psychology Today, self-love was said to improve productivity, strength, and decrease depression. Just try looking in the mirror before you start your day and tell yourself..."i love you, i love my scars, my windows peak, the mole on my finger, my cellulite, my love handles" or whatever it is that you need to tell that you love it...love it flaws and all!
5. I don't know about y'all but my daily routine can get so hectic; rushing in between, work, friends, and family that sometimes i forget to schedule some me time...time to do new activities, try new foods, go new places!. So often socializing revolves around catching up with our girls and their drama , life changes and accomplishments, which can actually be pretty damn draining at times. But instead, why not try something you’ve never done before? It can be something simple like trying a new cuisine, going to a painting class, or a crazy activity like indoor sky diving. I love getting on Groupon and just looking under the "Things to Do" tab just to get new ideas.Whatever it is, by engaging in a new activity, the excitement of it all can actually release endorphins and adrenalin in your brain. "In a recent study by the NIH, they concluded that trying new activities weekly boosted positivity and self-worth."
So, the next time you’re getting ready, or even while you’re sipping your cup of tea in the morning (which i do every morning!), take the time to list five things you like no LOVE about yourself. It can be anything, physically, mentally or emotionally. You can either be your own biggest critic or your own biggest fan!
