5 THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO TO
NEW ORLEANS
1. Mardi Gras off-season. Outside of their busiest time of year, New Orleans has a lot of different cultural things to experience such as the food, architecture, and parades. There are always parades year round. You may even catch a wedding parade in the French Quarter. So if you don not care for the wild crazy nights and the crowds of Mardi Gras you can still enjoy your time in New Orleans!
2. Mardi Gras on-season. Whenever people mention New Orleans the first thing that pops into mind is of course Mardi Gras...the main attraction. You can experience endless parades, great food, bead throwing and endless drinks and nightlife. Make sure you book early and plan your trip out in advanced though because it only last for a few weeks between January and February
3. Drink up! New Orleans has the most lenient drinking laws. You do not have to worry about finishing your drink before you move on to your next destination because most facilities offer to-go cups! Feel free to drink in public, have a stroll down Bourbon St. with a drink in hand. Also, there are no set regulations for the selling of alcohol so if you want a drink at 3am it wouldn't be hard to find a place, you might even see places open/serving alcohol 24/7!
4. French Quarter. The most touristy part of New Orleans. You won't find any locals roaming around this area! Enjoy live music, good food, lively architecture, piano bars, and much more! Don't worry about planning and making reservations at restaurants because there are plenty of small gems and food stands everywhere!
5. Be Aware. Make sure you be aware of your surroundings and this is no matter where your going! Even in a touristy area make sure you're using the buddy system! With liquor regulations being on the lenient side don't end up getting separated from your friends or getting lost and taken! It is okay to have fun but be safe! And always Uber/Lyft over drinking and driving!
