The Traveling Checklist: The Do's and Don'ts

Anytime can be the best time for a vacation if you plan accordingly. So I've decided to compile a list of my own personal "do's and don'ts" to make sure your travel plans go accordingly! Hope these help out and make planning less stressful and more exciting!

DO'S

  • Pick a destination (domestic or international, tropical or desert...just find somewhere!)
  • Make sure you have all your travel documents; passports and or visas, check the dates and make sure they are not about to expire and have enough pages left
  • Look far out enough. Give yourself 3-5 months to prepare for domestic trips and 6-9 months for international. This gives you enough time to find hotel and flights at a decent price!
  • Make sure you price match and use multiple different sources and check daily because prices fluctuate!
  • Research to find out what's included with your hotel, is breakfast complimentary? Is there a shuttle service available? Is there a restaurant and bar on site? Is there a pool? All the answers are more than likely on the hotels direct site
  • Pack travel size toiletries! shampoo, toothpaste, lotions...they ALL come travel size and you can usually come in a set at your local grocery store!
  • Check the weather! Make sure your prepared for whatever; whether it's rain, sleet, snow or hopefully just loads of sunshine!
DON'TS
  • Wait last minute. Prices reach an all time high last minute!
  • Book an international trip without obtaining the proper documentation needed
  • Purchase a flight before you've secured a place to stay! It would suck to be so far away from home with no where to lay your head at night
  • Over-pack or underpaid. When you over-pack you can end up paying more for your bags to fly or potentially leave things behind. Under-pack and you may end up having to do some unintended shopping
  • Venture on vacation without funds! Save! Save! Save! You want to be able to be carefree, do spontaneous adventures, and maybe even do a little shopping on your trip so make sure you are prepared financially! Also, you never know what emergency costs that can potentially come up
  • Go with people that you actually like and can go more than a day together without getting annoyed.....because that would just suck!

Whatever you do and wherever you go just have fun! Make new memories, try different foods, stay up all night, and indulge in a different culture!
